The Best Way to Pick a Salsa? Taste Them All.

At Zuidas Summer Fest, we put our salsas in the spotlight and invited people to taste their way through the different flavours. Because sometimes the salsa really does make the meal.

Last week, we moved some of our salsas out of the kitchen and onto Zuidplein. For Zuidas Summer Fest, we set up a stall just outside our Salsa Shop and spent the day handing out tastes of the different salsas on our menu.

Some people already knew exactly which one they wanted. Others needed a little more research. Luckily, trying all of them was very much allowed.

The Part That Changes Everything

We talk about salsa quite a lot at Salsa Shop. Our name probably gives that away. But there's a reason for it.

You can build two almost identical burritos or bowls, add a different salsa to each and end up with a completely different meal. Fresh, smoky, spicy, mild, that final choice can change the whole thing.

It's also one of the most personal parts of ordering. Some people want as much heat as we'll give them. Others would very much like their lunch without the tears.

Neither is wrong. Which is why getting people to actually taste the different options works a lot better than simply describing them on a menu.

Live Saucy, Quite Literally

Live Saucy usually shows up as a mindset. Do your own thing. Try something you haven't tried before. Add a little colour. Don't take everything quite so seriously.

But every now and then, it can be very literal too.

At Zuidas Summer Fest, that meant standing outside with a table full of salsa and letting people find their favourite before it eventually ended up in a bowl or burrito inside.

And judging by the number of people who went from “I'll just try one” to working their way through the table, giving salsa the spotlight for a day wasn't a bad idea.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, tasted and debated their favourite.

If you still don't know yours, there's really only one solution.
