At Salsa Shop, your bowl isn’t a preset formula. It’s a build. A sequence. A set of choices that actually matter. And if you know how to layer it properly, you don’t just end up with lunch — you end up with your lunch.
The build (in the right order)
First: your base.
White rice, lime seasoned rice, or bulgur.
White keeps it classic. Lime rice brings brightness. Bulgur adds a little bite, more chew, less “soft pile.”
Next: black beans; yes or no.
Beans aren’t just “extra.” They change the whole bowl: thicker, fuller, more hearty.
Then: the main event.
Pick chicken, shredded beef, carnitas, chili sin carne, or veggies.
This is where your bowl chooses its lane: clean, rich, slow-cooked, spicy-comfort, or straight-up plant-powered.
Now you’re set for the rest.
Toppings are where it becomes yours
After that, you build the top half, the part that makes every bite different.
Pico de gallo for freshness.
Roasted corn for sweetness.
Sour cream if you want it softer and smoother.
Cheese if you want it rounder and a bit more indulgent.
Then your choice of one of our six signature salsas — the thing that actually decides the mood of the bowl.
Finish with lettuce for crunch and lift.
And here’s the “so what?” part.
If Mexican food still feels a bit unfamiliar, a build-your-own bowl is the easiest way in. You’re in control, you can keep it simple, and you can learn what you like without committing to a mystery order.
You don’t need to “know Mexican.”
You just need to know what you’re in the mood for.
