We met with Juan José Cue, the owner of Mural de los Poblanos, who reminded us that even in Mexico there’s room and craving for a place like Salsa Shop. That was energising.
In Grajales, we visited our long-standing partners at San Marcos: the ones behind our tomatillos and chipotle. We toured the facility, shared ideas and left with a stronger bond (and a few dreams about launching a private Salsa Shop label). It’s more than just ingredients. It’s about trust, quality, and shared values.
In Tlatlauqui, we got our hands dirty learning how to make salsas and tortillas from scratch. Guided by Tere, a local expert, we prepared everything by hand: roasted chiles, raw tomatillos, folded dough. It was humbling and inspiring. A reminder that real flavour takes patience, technique, and respect for ingredients.
And maybe the most powerful insight? Even the most basic items, like tortillas or a simple salsa, carry deep meaning. It’s not just food. It’s memory, craft, and culture.
As we return home, we bring more than just new recipes. We bring new energy. From fresh drinks and barbacoa bowls to bold salsas and maybe even a torta twist. This journey shapes how we’ll grow Salsa Shop in the months (and years) to come.
Gracias Mexico. We’ll honour the flavours well.
