There are plenty of ways to celebrate the opening of a new restaurant. We figured running 6K through the city first wasn't a bad one. Together with HRLM Running, we organised our first Haarlem Run Club to celebrate the opening of our brand-new Salsa Shop on Kruisstraat.
Amsterdam Meets Haarlem
The group turned out to be exactly the mix we'd hoped for. Familiar faces travelled from Amsterdam after joining our previous Run Clubs, the HRLM Running community showed up in force and plenty of new faces from Haarlem joined us too.
Together, we ran 6K through the city before making our way back to Salsa Shop. And after six kilometres, nobody needed much convincing to stay for food.
Soon our terrace was packed with runners eating burritos, catching their breath and getting to know each other. We even had people passing by slowing down to see what was going on. The Live Saucy shirts and socks probably didn't make us particularly hard to spot either.
Starting With the Neighbourhood
When we open in a new city, we want to get to know the people around us. Partnering with HRLM Running felt like a pretty good place to start: they already have a great running community in Haarlem, while our own Run Clubs have built a group of familiar faces over the past months.
Bringing those groups together meant our first week in Haarlem didn't only happen inside the restaurant. We got to run through our new city, meet some of the people who live there and finish the morning with a very full terrace.
Not a bad first weekend in Haarlem.
A huge thank you to HRLM Running and everyone who came out to run with us.
